Elite Soccer Parent Council- Food Drive 2009
In honor of Make a Difference Day (October 24th), the largest national day of helping others, 203 Arlington Aces youth soccer teams comprised of 2550 players were asked to participate in a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support needy families in the Wheeling Township.

Teams were asked to put together complete Thanksgiving baskets, to include items to feed a family a full Thanksgiving meal.  A total of 57 baskets were collected at soccer games on October 24th and 25th.  Additional bags with food and toiletries, along with $900 worth of grocery store gift cards, were also collected.  Parent volunteers delivered all the items to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry, 1616 N. Arlington Hts Road, on October 26th.

"We thought this was a great opportunity for our kids to learn the importance of giving back to the community while creating a sense of team spirit." said Colleen Schoessling, member of the Elite Soccer Parent Council, who sponsored this project in partnership with the Arlington Heights Park District.

Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.  Make a Difference day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.  For more information about Make a Difference Day, please visit www.makeadifferenceday.com.
