Aces Academy U16 Boys White advance to knock out phase of US Club Cup

Congratulations to the U16 Academy Boys White team and coach Chris Berena for advancing to the knock out phase in the US Club Cup.

In game one the Aces ousted Inter F.C. 2-0. The first goal came off of a set piece cross from Brendan Doyle to Michael Duszynski with five minutes left in the first half. Brad Davis followed up with a goal from the penalty spot to seal the game for the good guys 1/2 way through the second half. Not to be overlooked was the solid defensive effort put in by the back 4 and GK Stephen Carlson.

The boys followed up in game two with another clean sheet to secure a 1-0 victory over the Lombard Firebirds. An excellent individual effort and accurate finish in the box by Robert Moskwa 10 minutes into the first half proved to be the game winner in the Aces 1-0 victory.

In the third and final game of group play, the boys found themselves down 2-0 to Elk Grove at home. The team stepped it up in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. Despite, the loss the previous efforts by the team were enough to push the boys into the double elimination stage of the US Club Cup.

"I am very pleased with the effort the boys put in during the group phase of this tournament." said Coach Chris Berena. "We all had an understanding that if we defended well our chances of advancing to the next leg would be good. Everyone embraced this and as a result we accomplished our goal of being in the hunt after the group stage."

The U16 Boys White team have their first playoff game against the Chicago Makers before May 16th.
